For businesspeople and travellers who want to fly directly to London , London City Airport is the ideal choice. This is the closest airport to central London ; at just three miles from Canary Wharf and six miles from the city of London , with the journey into the centre of the city taking less than half an hour. There is only one terminal, which is used by all flights.

Parking: There is limited long-term and short-term parking next to the terminal, within walking distance. Payment is on exit and can be made at automated payment machines in the terminal, the carpark or at the Travelex Desk; cash and major credit cards are accepted. There are specially designated spaces for disabled drivers.

Getting to and from the airport: If you are driving to London City Airport from north London , take the North Circular Road (A406). From the south, take the South Circular and the Blackwall Tunnel. From Central London , go east via the city and Aldgate, then follow the signs for the airport. From the east, take the M11 and then the A13 and the North Circular (A406).

There is no overland train service to London City Airport , but from 2006 there will be a Docklands Light Railway station servicing the airport. The nearest underground station is Canning Town on the Jubilee Line, which is served by the Green Shuttlebus. The bus runs to the airport every 5 to 10 minutes from 06:00 to 22:00, Mondays to Fridays; 06:00 to 13:00 on Saturdays; and 10:00 to 22:00 on Sundays. Public bus number 69 runs to Walthamstow and North Woolwich, while service 473 goes to Stratford and North Woolwich . There are plenty of black taxi cabs outside the terminal, with the journey time to Central London taking about 20 to 30 minutes.

Amenities: There are several restaurants and cafés in the airport, serving a variety of food from full meals to quick snacks. Restaurants include The Meridian Line Restaurant, a Tapas Bar and Coffee Corner with Bewley's Coffee shop and speciality store. There are not many shopping facilities, but World News on the ground floor of the terminal building sells a wide variety of goods including newspapers, magazines, books, confectionery, pharmaceuticals, tourist gifts and electronics. There is also a bank, a bureau de change and a number of ATMs in the terminal. For business travellers, there is the Meridian Business Centre (tel: +44 20 7646 0900), which is on the first floor and can accommodate 80 people. It offers secretarial support, internet access, photocopying, fax, catering and private dining facilities.
