Car Hire & Driving in Naples, ItalyWelcome to Naples Car Hire, Italy; available at Naples Airport.Naples and Campania region Southern Italy Car HireThe capital of Campania, Naples is one of the few European cities of the ancient world that has never been completely extinguished and that you can still visit in your hire car today. Founded by Greeks, Naples was the much prized booty of foreign invaders and Imperialists; most prominently the Normans, Hohenstaufen, French and Spanish. For centuries Naples has dominated the Italian south – the Mezzogiorno, or land of the midday sun. The problems of poverty, crime and unemployment are magnified here, but there is also an attractive, rude ebullience that you will find on a visit in your hire car. The ancient history of Campania is associated with the Etruscans and the Greeks, whose gigantic ruins can be seen at Paestum. Next came a time of great prosperity under Roman leadership; archaeological evidence of this still exists at Benevento and Santa Maria Capua Vetere, which you can visit in your hire car. The hinterland, with its rich well-cultivated plains, is eclipsed by the Amalfi coastline with its breathtaking views and the dramatic seaboard of the Cilento, which you can see from your hire car. The mountains interior of Campania is remote and unvisited, containing small towns that were settled by the Greeks, developed by the Romans and often abandoned in the wake of malaria and Saracen attacks, the remains of which you can visit in your hire car. Pompeii is one of the most famous sites you can visit in your hire car while in Naples. An earthquake in AD 62, which shook Pompeii and damaged many buildings, was merely a prelude to the tragic day in AD 79 when Mount Vesuvius erupted, burying Pompeii in 6 meters (20ft) of pumice and ash.
