Perhaps the most beautiful view of Lisbon is from the ramparts of Castelo de Sao Jorge, which crowns the fist hill east of Lisbon city centre and can be visited in your hire car. The castle can be seen from nearly anywhere in Lisbon, serving as an apt and romantic reminder of Lisbon’s ancient roots. Bairro Alto the upper quarter of Lisbon rises to the west of Baixa.
