Madrid Barajas Airport (MAD)

Situated nine miles from the city centre, Madrid Barajas Airport (MAD) is a busy facility, serving in excess of 25 million passengers per annum. The airport currently operates four terminals, having just completed the construction of a new satellite terminal in order to accommodate the anticipated increase in passenger figures over the next few years.

Parking: The airport has a total of seven car parks offering short-stay, long-stay and VIP parking options. As with all of Spain's airports, parking is free for up to 30 minutes in the short-term facilities, while charges are made on a daily basis in the long-term facilities, with lower rates coming into operation after 4 days.

Getting to and from the airport: The airport is situated nine miles from the centre of Madrid and is well signposted, with road access possible via both the M-30 and the M-40 motorways. Public transport is provided by the Madrid Metro Subway, which connects the airport with the city; the Metro station is located in Terminal 2. Alternatively, public bus service number 89 calls at stops outside the Arrivals areas of each terminal and serves the city and destinations along the way. Meanwhile, taxi stands can be found outside each of the Arrivals areas.

Amenities: Information points can be found throughout the airport with over 100 staff dedicated to assisting with passenger queries. ATMs can be found in all four terminals, while banks and bureaux de change can be found in Terminal 1 and Terminal 4. A large variety of shops are available throughout the terminal buildings including newsagents, gift shops, electronic retailers and duty-free outlets beyond passport control. For dining and refreshments, all four terminals offer a good selection of outlets, most of which are Spanish franchises although Terminal 4 has a McDonald's and a Starbucks. For business travellers, there are six VIP lounges with limited business facilities as well as five conference rooms available for hire by prior arrangement. Disabled access and toilets are available in all public areas of the airport.
